Last night I witnessed some bottom-of-the-barrel behaviour…
Eating dinner with Emma (my wife) at a local restaurant, and a few tables over some arsehole pipes up:
And from here, the shit-show unfolds…
…Swapping tables, endless changing of minds, taking meals back, and boundless dickhead demands.
The icing on the cake?
He questioned EVERY single item on his bill.
Now, never afraid to stir the pot, when I was settling up, I asked the poor tormented bastard serving him:
“After all that – did that guy leave you a tip?”
The smirk said it all.
And in here lies the BIG problem with the dumb fuckery that states ‘the customer is always right.’
You bend over backwards…
…You comply with changes.
…You reply to requests.
…You neglect other (good) customers, your family, and yourself to make them happy…
And in the end, they still want to beat you down on price.
The point being – not all customers are created equal.
Ones like this are blood sucking leeches.
Slowly, slowly, inch by inch…
They suck your time, your energy, your money, and eventually your soul.
Give them an inch and they WILL take a mile.
You are the captain of your ship.
That means YOU control your code of conduct.
- You decide when you reply to emails.
- You decide how many changes are acceptable.
- You decide when you work and for what price.
So this week, I’d urge you to set rules and stick to them.
