Being ruthless is good for business

One of the biggest complaints I hear for men in this game of business is around customers….

Difficult customers, non paying customers, constantly emailing customers…

And whilst I agree, customers can be a right royal pain in the ass, my question is this:

Who sets the rules of engagement in this relationship – them or you?

You best believe it is you.

And the man with ruthless rules of engagement will always win the race.

(Your engagement terms are everything that is non-negotiable to you – things like the only way to contact you, when you will respond, and payment terms)

See without these ruthlessly enforced rules even the best of customers can quickly become a nightmare.

Yet many men are scared about being so bold and potentially losing customers.

Yet here is the thing –  having clear rules of engagement works for you AND customers…

Human beings like to know what is going to happen and for someone to be in control.

Customers want to know you’ve got this.

By taking charge and being clear,  their confidence in you instantly increased, and their need to pester you is instantly decreased.

Now a word of warning….

Even if you do have crystal clear rules of engagement, once you start cutting corners with ruthless enforcement then you’re opening the door to dickhead customer behaviour again.

In this game, stuff adds up, making this exception or that exception adds up.

For rules of engagement to work in your favour, you need to be ruthless my friend.

After all, being ruthless is good for business.
