Here’s an instructive question from Steve H, in Portsmouth:
“Charlie I know you’re busy but I read all your emails so I thought I’d chance it. Business is good, but the better we do, the more hate we seem to get. How do we explain ourselves? Thanks Ste.”
Long answer short you don’t.
Why explain yourself to strangers, competitors or others, who in most cases, would rather shit on you, than see you succeed?
In fact, why ever waste time, energy and effort trying to convince them of anything?
See in my experience crossing swords with those outsides of your gates eliminates power and forces even the most successful man of action, to go off half-cocked when facing a challenge or threat to his honour.
… And here’s the BIG problem with that.
As soon as the first challenge is accepted, the flood gates start to open and every man, woman and child with an axe to grind, starts to feel they too are entitled to YOUR time and YOUR response.
They are not.
This is your game.
Justification to strangers of how you play it is not needed.
The debate around your decisions and your direction should ruthlessly be reserved for only other men whom you know and whom you respect – your Iron Council.
When it comes to anyone else, you’d be wise to let them battle with their own bees in their own bonnet – while, you my friend, continue to bunker down and drink from the skulls of your enemies 🙂
