“Charlie, I’m looking for some creative ideas to boost sales – what do you think?”
Fuck creativity, it’s all about maths.
You see here’s the thing, once you and I realise that this game is about money maths and not creative ideas, then everything changes.
When me and Em toyed with the idea of starting the cosmetics business 18 months ago.
We didn’t start with creative product lines, creative ads or creative angles.
No. No. No.
What we did start with was asking:
“How can we make the maths works?”
And more importantly…
“How can we start buying customers at a profit?”
Or in other words, starting from the ground up to figure out:
- What is the best way to increase the NUMBER of transactions?
- What is the best way to increase the VALUE of each transaction?
- What is the best way to increase the PROFIT of each customer?
Emma then engineered the business and the strategy with maths in mind.
Spend £1 on ads, make at least £1 in profit on the first transaction.
Truth is, this my friend is more relevant to established businesses than start-ups.
It ain’t about creativity, it’s about maths.
… Because in my experience, it’s the small tweaks in the maths that have the B-I-G impact on the bottom line.
The good news is that the maths is way easier to fix than trying to get Facebook or Google to play ball.
So on that note:
