I’m not sure if you’ll pick this up, but still thought I’d reach out.
I want to ask you… Is there a step-by-step plan to scale as just a one man band, because I really like being in control of everything?
Like:
- How to get more customers.
- How to get sub-contractors to take ownership of the work I give them.
- How to stop having to be answerable to people at the weekend.
I want to keep pushing forward, but feel like I’m failing at every step.

Well me, I’d suggest something else.
Asking how to grow as a One Man Band is the wrong question.
Because, here’s the trouble with operating as a One Man Band and a centralised business model:
YOU are at the centre of everything.
… Or in other words, everything comes to YOU:
- Customers
- Sub-Contractors
- Accounts
- Support etc etc.
Now, in the beginning, this is OK because it’s fast, it’s simple and it keeps you in control.
BUT here’s the problem…
If you start to add more customers, add more sub-contractors and add more services to the business, with you still as the piggy in the middle, there’s only one way to go:
- OVERWHELM.
- OVERSTRETCH.
- FATIGUE & PANIC.
The fallout and coupe-de-grace that comes from the fool’s errand of false control.
It’s why most men in this game would be smart, as they scale, to operate like a One Man Empire instead of a One Man Band.
That is choosing to move with speed and at full force from a centralised to a DE-CENTRALISED model.
In other words a conscious choice to STOP being the only resource for information and instead leveraging systems, processes and automation to break free of the day-to-day grind and efficiently scale.
