Posted by Matt last night inside our private Fellowship app:
“I would prefer that you stop bombarding me with amateur spam. Your behaviour is a disgrace to our profession”
The amateur spam in question?
A simple “want to go ahead with your quote” text message.
Now, encase you’re wondering, Matt’s in the Tree Survey business and this dickhead is one of Matt’s competitors.
Looks like they were trying to reverse engineer his marketing system by playing possum and asking for a quote.
Which by the way IS very smart.
His arsehole feedback, however, was not.
… and for two reasons:
- It was irrelevant – see my email last Sunday
- It was ignorant – as the follow-up message in question, closes quotes like clockwork, and on autopilot.
Truth be told his reply should have read:
“Matt, I wanted to reply to your text by saying thanks…
I’ve been in this industry for 20 years and I’d hit a wall. After mystery shopping you, getting a quote and seeing your automated systems and processes first hand, I’ve got a golden shower of insight…
In fact, I can now see clear as day, how you’ve come from nowhere and taken over our industry in the last 24 months. It makes total sense why every lead I speak to has said they’ve chosen YOU over us.
Please let me buy you dinner so I can pick your brains further. In the meantime I’m going to start doing what you’re doing – it’s clearly working.
Thank you again. ”
Now, I suspect this particular individual is too old in the tooth to change, and too stuck in his ways to do what’s need to be done.
Which brings me onto the point of this email today, One Man Empire Iron Law #53 and your mantra for money this week:
Always Do The Opposite Of Everyone Else…
… Especially if they’ve been in the market a long time.
There’s no faster way for the self-made man to take over any industry than showing up like no one else does, or dare will.
I’d back that up with an old Dan Kennedy’ism:
“If you’ve not pissed someone off by 9 am you’re not marketing hard enough…”
Truth is and right now, it’s more important than ever to be bucking industry trends by ruthlessly raking your competitors over the coals for being too stupid to change and too dumb to act.
Make More. Provide More. Be More.
