Apparently my language is causing problems again.
Case in point this comment, left online and over the weekend.
“WHY DO YOU HAVE TO KEEP SWEARING AND SPEWING FILTH…”
I think the full-caps gives you an insight into this particular arsehole’s state of mind as he puts pen to paper.
Anyway… and in the case of fairness, let me answer that question and explain the reality and impact of swearing…
… With SCIENCE.
Yes, that’s you and me today, starting to consider the facts about the profit pumping properties of profanity…
… Instead of the usual “politically correct” hearsay and bullshit that gets slung it’s way.
Truth is, there have been scientific studies, and those scientific studies have been conclusive.
So let’s get down to business:
Scientific Fact #1 – Swearing may be a sign of social intelligence
“Having the strategies to know where and when it’s appropriate to swear, and when it’s not, is a social cognitive skill like picking the right clothes for the right occasion. That’s a pretty sophisticated social tool.”
… Says Timothy Jay, professor emeritus of psychology at the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts
Hmmm… Interesting and good news there and right off the bat, from my man TJ.
Scientific Fact #2 – Swearing may be a sign of honesty
According to three studies published in 2017, people who swear, lied less on a social level, and had higher levels of integrity overall.
Good news for the “filth” pouring from my mouth and I guess you could say, something that makes me more trustworthy than most 🙂
3. Profanity improves pain tolerance
Leading psychologist Richard Stephens from Keele University found that people who swear as they plunged their hand into icy water, felt less pain…
… AND were able to keep their hands in the water longer than those who said a neutral word.
Apparently something to do with the body producing a stress response that initiates the an ancient defensive reflex.
… AKA a sudden flush of adrenaline, which increases heart rate and prepares the mind and muscles for fight or flight.
Hmmmm….
Sobering reading for the politically correct and a life lesson for any self-made men of value who needs:
- A high level of social intelligence to close customers…
- A high level of integrity and honesty to keep those customers….
- … and a higher level of pain to deal with those customers once they’ve been kept!
Probably why most men here inside of The Fellowship spew filth on a daily basis…
And probably why when you decide to apply and step foot inside of this environment, I’m proud to say that around this table the “fucks” come thick and fast.
Anyway ’nuff said on that and I think my point is made – most would be wise to crank up the cursing.
