It’s Sunday, 8.37 am, we’re running late and I’m having a wobble…
A mental wobble that is, not physical.
Now, it might be due to the fact that Barney won’t get his fucking trainers on for rugby practice…
Or the fact that Emma has bookmarked The Great British Bake Off for the TV tonight.
But I suspect it’s something deeper.
See, for the last seven days, I’ve noticed my mind teetering on the edge of fatigue and panic.
A place that I called home 7 years ago, but until last weekend, an old friend that I’d thankfully not bumped into for a long time and one that I hoped I’d not see again anytime soon.
The fact of the matter is, I should have seen the warning signs.
Because after 12 months of sobriety from the lame-stream news, thanks to the pandemic, I relapsed and replugged back into the media matrix.
Dumb-fuckery of the highest order and a self-administered coup de grace that kick started minute by minute checks on what “might” have happened, what’s “possibly” going to happen and what “could” be the consequences.
A slippery slope of being aggressively re-indoctrinated into a state of fear and panic.
One made worse by friends, family and strangers driving my mindset to its knees by banging the drum of the dread. You know the drill:
“Maybe that isn’t a good idea right now…”
“Maybe we shouldn’t do this today…”
“Not everyone else is acting this way… ”
A state of mind that all but forces YOU to bend yourself over YOUR own barrel, double guessing every step and every move as you feel the sky starting to fall. And there’s only one place to go from there – and that’s down because…
Fear Becomes Your New God…
A subtle subconscious switch that dictates contraction and caution.
One that’s backed up by the eerie echo-chamber encouraging us all to be good little squirrels and burrow our nuts away for the L-O-N-G winter that’s coming.
NEWS FLASH – cautious, contracting and careful companies ALWAYS get caught with their pants down.
Little wonder this great nation was built on a ruthless religion of conquest over caution.
An age of expanding empires, liberty and going where no man dared go before.
It’s why so many men over the years have fought tooth and nail for the right, and personal freedom, to be able to stand on their own two feet or die trying.
Which makes my wobble and this worrying trend in the rapidly emerging economy around caution – of grave concern because the simple fact of the matter is this:
Too Many Men Are Cautiously Playing Out The Last Quarter Of 2020…
… Sat waiting for the Government to make a FIRM and FAIR decision for them, their business and their circumstances.
Trouble being, and if the last 6 months have taught us anything, it’s that Westminster’s allegiances lie firmly with those who line their pockets – Big Business.
Meaning, you must consider that waiting till January for the dust to settle – or worse still, a vaccine – will be a swift stake through the heart… If history has taught us anything, it’s that those who continue on with caution are already dead in the water.
Which just goes to show, my wobble was the wake-up call I needed to blow the whistle on this self-imposed state of being afraid. See, the truth is…
