Instructive (and funny) story for you today.
One that makes it clear as day, that when it comes to the mediocre mass majority – us’ens and them have never been more poles apart.
See, a good friend of mine is recruiting for a new position.
A mid-level one, and one with a good salary.
After sifting through the 200 or so candidates – there was one that stood out.
One that was smart.
One that was intelligent.
One that was knowledgeable.
… And one that could hold a conversation for more than 5 minutes without looking at his fucking phone.
So, he made it to the last stage – a face-to-face interview in head office – and here is where it gets interesting…
… As they were confirming dates my friend asked:
“Any questions?”
The answer…
“YES – can I bring my dog to the interview?”
Hmmmmmmmmm…
…. WTF – Can you bring your dog to work?!
… Sure why not? Bring your pet, bring your toddler, and bring the wife along too.
I mean – fuck me.
Unsurprisingly the answer was a hard NO.
And here’s where it gets really interesting…
This fella, the candidate, was then pissed off.
Bitching, moaning, whinging and complaining about fairness.
Needless to say, a bullet was swiftly put in the back of this candidate’s head.
…. BUT what’s really important about this and the current state of play when it comes to employees in this new economic order:
EXPECTATIONS.
The expectation that you and I should bend the knee, whatever the deluded demand – because you have to be fair.
… Seems paying good wages and keeping a roof over people’s heads is no longer enough.
A worrying state of affairs that explains a lot, I think you’ll agree.
Ultimately your mantra for money today is this…
You bend. You break. You lose.
If ever there was a time to embrace the One Man Empire philosophy of offloading & outsourcing, now my friend is that time.
Your profit and your sanity will thank you for it.
