So yesterday I heard these fateful words uttered by a parent at the school gates:
“Oh, I can’t do that. I’m not strong enough.”
Two sentences and excuses that I suspect are nothing more than self-imposed limitations that this particular individual tells themselves daily.
Now I get that not everyone thinks like you and I think.
But here’s what pissed me off…
This dumb fuckery was recklessly spouted in earshot of 10, 20, maybe even 30 impressionable kids.
And for me, it all comes back to responsibility.
More specifically the responsibility that comes with being a parent, a provider and a protector.
Because here’s the thing that most don’t realise.
What you tell yourself is what your kids, your wife and your family will start to tell themselves too.
Thoughts like…
- I can’t do that.
- I’m not ready for that.
- I won’t like that.
… Not only pollute the minds of self-made men but also start to rot and ravage the minds of those you are sworn to protect.
It’s why as the man of the house if do not you want your family running arsehole limitations through their heads – you have to consider spotting and stopping YOUR bullshit self-talk first.
It’s the single most effective way for men like you and I to provide and protect on a deeper level.
