After nearly 20 years, it seems there’s still stuff I don’t really know about one of my best friends.
Case in point last week, when the barman dared to add ice to his rum and coke.
Truth is, it wasn’t so much the ice…
It was the fact that the ice had been made with tap and NOT filtered water!
Apparently he could taste the difference.
… And the drink went back.
I know, I know…
Anyway after I’d picked myself up off the floor from laughing, I reflected on what he said.
… And reflected on what he refused to accept.
Because when push comes to shove, the only thing on this planet that REALLY defines us is our standards, and what we choose to tolerate.
See, in my experience, man is never the highest version of himself that he can imagine.
… BUT is in fact the lower version of himself that he will choose to accept.
Meaning if one of this friends non-negotiable standards is Brita filtered ice cubes then who the fuck am I to judge.
A lesson for even the wisest self-made men among us today.
Meaning this week, and above all else, you must make it your moral obligation to fight hammer and nail for what you stand by.
No matter how stupid, petty or bizzare it may seem to others.
After-all, when it comes to what you are willing to accept, theirs (and my) opinion is irrelevant.
So moral of the story…
If you ever get my friends an iced drink, best make sure the cubes are from filtered water.
… And if you ever want to truly make more, provide more and be more – then you must, above all else, turn what you want into irrefutable, iron-clad and non-negotiable standards.
