The Case Against “Lone Wolf” Douchebaggery

Fuck.

I can’t believe that today, and in this email, I’m writing about football.

Over the past 579 Sunday Success emails, I’ve avoided it like the plague.

Truth is, football isn’t and never has been my thing.

I just don’t get it.

I’m an ice hockey man through and through.

There’s something about being “legally” encouraged to hit another man in the face that’s kind of appealing.

That said, if the last four weeks of football has highlighted anything, it’s that there’s something to be said about the POWER obtained from a common interest.

Something about the brotherhood of team sports, and standing shoulder-to-shoulder with others, that can drive men of action together (and forward) with speed and at full force.

A primeval POWER in knowing that there is always another man there to help…

A primeval POWER in knowing that there is always another man watching your back…

… And a primeval POWER in understanding that there is always another man willing to protect your best interests – at all costs.

The fact of the matter is, it’s why since the dawn of time, men have always hunted and fought in small teams.

There’s a greater chance of survival together than there is apart.

Unfortunately, too many men in this game today have started to believe they are better off alone.

Something to do with the fact that men, as a whole, have been duped into believing the “lone wolf” douchebaggery.

… Brainwashed into thinking that seeking help, guidance and brotherhood comes at the expense of manliness.

It couldn’t be further from the truth, because brotherhood IS manliness.

… And as men, we are always better together than we are apart.

Now that all said, and while we’re on the topic of the conquest of man…

Today is Barney’s birthday – he’s eight and growing like a weed.

Truth is, I couldn’t be prouder of the journey he is on, and the man he’s started to become.

Now I don’t know if you’ve got kids, but there’s something special about seeing them forged in fire, right in front of your eyes, as they too, start to stand tall among giants.

Anyway, for the first time ever, tonight I’ll be glued to my seat and watching a full 90 minutes of football, with Barney by my side as we watch England run the gauntlet.
